Methodology and sources
Where every figure on the site comes from, how often it is updated and what we do when two sources disagree.
The sources
The site does not gather data on its own: it takes it from identified sources and presents it. These are all of them.
- API-Football
- Results, line-ups, scorers, cards, minutes and ratings for the 104 matches of 2026. It is the source for everything that happens on the pitch.
- openfootball (CC0)
- Historical record of previous World Cups, 1930 to 2022: matches, results and participants.
- Wikipedia · Wikimedia Commons
- Stadium and player photographs, plus the biographies on player profiles. Only freely licensed files are used, with author and licence credited on each image.
- Our own work
- Match reports, previews, history articles and the derived rankings (best third-placed teams, goals by minute, head-to-heads). All computed from the sources above.
How often it updates
The site is regenerated in full after every match and several times a day. The top scorer, assist and card rankings are recomputed on every rebuild, as is the knockout bracket.
Data last updated: 2026-07-15 21:32 UTC. The same stamp appears in the footer of every page.
How the numbers are calculated
- Penalty shoot-out goals do not count as match goals and do not add to the top scorer ranking, in line with FIFA's criteria. They are shown in the shoot-out score.
- Matches decided in extra time are recorded by the score after 120 minutes.
- Individual ratings and MVP awards come from API-Football; rankings built on them require a minimum number of matches played, stated on each page.
- Kickoff times are calculated from each venue's official local time and displayed in mainland Spanish time.
When sources disagree
It happens, especially with late incidents and second yellow cards. The rule is simple: whatever can be verified in the official match record wins. If an event shows up in the statistics but not in the event log, it is added by hand after checking, and the change is recorded in the site's change log.
Data is provided subject to errors and omissions. For official matters, always check FIFA's own sources.
Images and licences
Stadium and player photographs come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences (CC BY-SA and equivalents). The author and licence are shown next to each image. If you are the author of a photo and spot an incorrect credit, write to us and we will fix it.
