Canada presents its national team with Parliament's Peace Tower flag
Secretary of State Adam van Koeverden visited the men's national team in Vancouver to present the flag that flew atop the Peace Tower on 12 June, the day of Canada's World Cup opener.
Canada's men's national team received a gift loaded with symbolism in the middle of the 2026 World Cup. The country's Secretary of State (Sport) and 'FIFA Sherpa', Adam van Koeverden, visited the team's training facility in Vancouver to present players and staff with a very special Canadian flag.
It is the flag that flew atop the Peace Tower, the emblematic tower of Parliament in Ottawa, on 12 June, the day Canada played their first World Cup match. The gift was meant to reflect the pride and backing of an entire country rallying behind its team at an edition Canada co-hosts alongside the United States and Mexico.
"From coast to coast to coast, Canadians are coming together," said Van Koeverden, who stressed that this support is felt "whether in stadiums, fan zones, community spaces or living rooms." The gesture, he noted, captures the spirit of a nation united behind its team.
Canada, who made their bow as hosts on 12 June, face the challenge of leaving a mark at the first 48-team World Cup, with Vancouver and Toronto as their two home venues.
