A share of the spoils leaves England and Ghana level at the top of Group L with one matchday to go.
England and Ghana could not break a goalless deadlock (0-0) at Foxborough's Gillette Stadium, home of the NFL's Patriots and holding 64,146 spectators, in a second-round Group L clash at the 2026 World Cup. The shared points left a bittersweet taste for two sides that had opened the tournament with victories.
The contest was scrappy and tight. England, dominant on the ball, ran repeatedly into the defensive organisation of a well-drilled Ghana that protected its box with discipline. The parity was reflected in a scoreboard that stayed still despite changes from both benches.
Thomas Tuchel sought solutions with a procession of high-profile substitutions: on came Anthony Gordon, Jude Bellingham, Noni Madueke and Marcus Rashford, but not even his squad depth unlocked the game. Across the pitch, Carlos Queiroz introduced Iñaki Williams and Jordan Ayew to try to spring a counter-attacking surprise, without reward.
Tuchel lined England up in a 4-2-3-1, while Queiroz responded with a Ghanaian 4-1-4-1 geared to closing the lines. The match offered little tension beyond yellow cards for England's Declan Rice (41') and Ghana's Iñaki Williams (60'), the mark of a duel more tactical than thrilling.
The draw leaves England and Ghana level on four points at the top of Group L, with everything to play for on the final matchday of 27 June: the Three Lions face Panama and Ghana meet Croatia with a place in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup on the line.
