Japan run riot: Ueda brace seals 4-0 win over Tunisia in Monterrey
Japan overwhelm Tunisia at Estadio BBVA with a four-goal show led by Ueda's brace, shaking up Group F.
Japan put on an attacking masterclass at the Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, in the Monterrey metropolitan area, beating Tunisia 4-0 in a Group F match at the 2026 World Cup. The Samurai Blue rolled out their trademark vertical football and saw off their rivals with authority at one of the Mexican venues of this 48-team tournament.
Daichi Kamada put Japan ahead early, in the 4th minute, setting the tone for a contest the Asian side controlled from start to finish. The early goal cemented Japan's game plan and forced Tunisia onto the back foot from the outset.
Ayase Ueda doubled the lead in the 31st minute to make it 2-0 and went on to become the man of the match. The striker completed his personal brace in the 83rd minute, capping a clinical performance in the box.
Between Ueda's two goals, Junya Ito extended the advantage in the 69th minute for 3-0, putting the result beyond doubt and allowing Japan to manage their lead comfortably against a Tunisia side unable to trouble the opposition goal.
With this four-goal haul, Japan emerge as a strong force in the Group F race and serve notice of their ambitions at the 2026 World Cup, while Tunisia suffer a heavy setback that complicates their hopes of advancing from a group stage played across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
