Mexico beat the Czech Republic 0-3 and close Group A with a perfect record at the Azteca

Mexico cruised to a 0-3 win over the Czech Republic at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, the cathedral of Mexican football holding 80,824 spectators, to close the third round of Group A at the 2026 World Cup. El Tri, the tournament hosts, completed the group stage with a perfect record before a passionate crowd.

The game opened up in the second half. In the 55th minute, Mateo Chávez broke the deadlock from a Luis Romo pass, and just six minutes later, in the 61st, Julián Quiñones extended the lead after an assist from Jorge Sánchez to make it 0-2 and set the hosts on their way.

The clincher arrived in stoppage time. In the 90+4, Álvaro Fidalgo rounded off a move set up by Roberto Alvarado to make it 0-3 and ignite the party at the Colossus of Santa Úrsula. Mexico's only booking fell on Edson Álvarez in the 64th, in a game always controlled by Javier Aguirre's men.

The Mexican coach set up his team in a 4-3-3, while Miroslav Koubek replied with a Czech 3-4-2-1 that never found a way to trouble the home goal. El Tri's solidity translated into another clean sheet at their fortress.

With this win, Mexico close Group A on nine points out of nine as winners with a perfect record, booking their place in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup with authority. The Czech Republic, by contrast, bow out of the tournament with just one point after two defeats and a draw.
