Scotland edge Haiti 0-1 thanks to McGinn at Gillette Stadium
A John McGinn goal before the break handed Scotland a golden win over Haiti on their 2026 World Cup bow.
Scotland claimed a precious 0-1 win over Haiti in a tight Group C clash at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, a US venue for the 2026 World Cup on the outskirts of Boston. The ground, holding 64,146 spectators and a regular home of American football, hosted one of the fixtures of this 48-team World Cup staged by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The decisive goal came before the break. In the 28th minute, John McGinn finished to put Scotland ahead, a strike that ultimately earned all three points for Steve Clarke's men. The midfielder became the man of the day with a decisive moment.
From there, the Scots managed their lead with experience. The match was scrappy and tense, as the bookings showed: Haiti's Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (39') was cautioned, while Scotland saw yellows for Aaron Hickey (46'), Kenny McLean (90') and Findlay Curtis (90'). The Scottish defence, captained by Andy Robertson, withstood the late Caribbean pressure.
Steve Clarke set up Scotland in a 4-4-2 with Scott McTominay and McGinn himself in midfield, while Sebastien Migne responded with an identical 4-4-2 built around Frantzdy Pierrot and Wilson Isidor in attack. Haiti tried, but lacked the cutting edge to beat Angus Gunn.
The win puts Scotland on three points in Group C, a perfect start, while Haiti remain without a point on their debut and must respond to keep alive their hopes of advancing at the 2026 World Cup.
